Had the first most gratifying conversation in 2013. I was in a clinic and I ran into an outstanding former student whom I hadn’t seen for 6 years. We talked for an hour, inside the clinic! It was a most satisfying experience as I listened to how in the last 6 years she had expanded her teaching repertoire, strengthened her vocation for teaching, empathised with the world of her students, capitalised on her Christian faith in overcoming various difficulties, and developed her teaching philosophies…in other words, how she had grown as a teacher, and as a person.
And for me, seeing the growth of a former student as a teacher and a person, is the greatest pay-off of being a teacher educator.
