A thoughtful janitor

During the postlesson discussion this afternoon, which took place in a classroom, a janitor was mopping the floor throughout. As the student teacher is a native speaker, I conducted the postlesson discussion entirely in English.
When the janitor, a middle-aged guy, was done cleaning, he wanted to remind me of the wet floor. And probably in an attempt to preserve the language environment of the moment, he uttered his reminder in English, though not with impeccable grammar. I appreciated his thoughtfulness. Then I remarked to the student teacher, half jokingly, “You see, this is why we should teach English in English.”
